9.5. Jump starting
Incorrect jump-starting can lead to a battery explosion. The battery explosion may result in severe injury or death. It may also result in damage to the vehicle. Be sure to follow the instructions in this section.
Explosive hydrogen gas is always present in the vicinity of the battery. Keep all sparks and flames away from the battery.
Always wear suitable eye protection glasses and remove rings, bracelets, and any other jewellery whenever working on or near a battery.
Never lean over the battery while jump-starting.
Never allow battery fluid to come into contact with eyes, skin, clothes or the vehicle's painted surfaces. Battery fluid is a corrosive sulphuric acid which can cause severe burns. If the fluid comes into contact with anything, immediately flush the contacted area with plenty of water.
Keep the battery out of the reach of children.
The booster battery must be rated at 12 volts. Use of an incorrectly rated battery will damage your vehicle.
Never attempt to jump-start a frozen battery. It could explode and cause serious injury.
Check if the parking brake is applied.
If not, after connecting the vehicle with the booster battery (after step 8), apply the parking brake.

Do not allow the two vehicles to touch.
Press the P position switch to shift to the P (Park) position).
Switch off all unnecessary electrical systems (headlights, hazard lights, etc.).
Ensure that the power switch of the vehicle being jump-started is OFF.
Open the bonnet. For details, see
.Using a trim tool other appropriate tool if necessary, release the three locking tabs and remove the engine compartment fuse box cover on the vehicle (B) being jump-started to allow access to the positive ⊕ terminal inside the fuse box.
Open the red positive ⊕ terminal cover.
Connect the jump leads in the sequence ((1) → (2) → (3) → (4)) as illustrated.
Always connect positive ⊕ (1) to positive ⊕ (2) and negative ⊖ (3) to body earth (4) NOT to the 12-volt battery’s negative ⊖ terminal, engine or motor.
An incorrect connection could damage the charging system.
Be sure that the jumper cables do not touch moving parts in the engine compartment.
Be careful not to allow contact between the positive jump lead connector and the vehicle or the negative lead during connection and disconnection.
Start the engine of the other vehicle (A) and let it run for a few minutes. Keep the engine speed at about 2,000 rpm.
Start the e-POWER system of your vehicle (B) in the normal way.
Never keep the starter motor engaged for more than 10 seconds. If the e-POWER system does not start immediately, switch the power switch OFF and wait 10 seconds before trying again.
After starting the e-POWER system of your vehicle, carefully disconnect the negative lead and then the positive lead ((4) → (3) → (2) → (1)).
Close the red positive ⊕ terminal cover insider the fuse box and replace the fuse box cover.
Close the bonnet.
Do not use this vehicle as a booster vehicle.
If the e-POWER system cannot be started, place the power switch in the OFF position with the driver’s door open. Get out of the vehicle, close the driver’s door and wait for more than 3 minutes. Then restart the e-POWER system.
If the 12-volt battery is discharged, the power switch cannot be placed in the ON or OFF position. Charge the 12-volt battery immediately.
